After being on the hot seat for an hour presenting and debating the merits of three of my environmental bills‚ I chose to take the stairs up seven flights to my Capitol office to clear my head with a short and intense climb. I reflected on my gratitude at being given the opportunity to fight to better our world. My colleagues and I parry questions – vigorously and civilly making our best arguments. We present opposing values‚ counter misinformation‚ accept defeat and feel pride at small successes.

Community Resources

A summary of the draft fiscal year 2023 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs bill is below. The subcommittee markup will be webcast live and linked on the House Committee on Appropriations website. The new structure added the Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, and transferred jurisdiction over Legislative Branch appropriations from the full committee to a newly reinstated Legislative Branch Subcommittee, which had not existed since the 108th Congress. The project would improve water resilience in the Antelope Valley by improving the region’s groundwater supply infrastructure to mitigate shortages during drought years. The Project has a Federal nexus because the funding provided is for purposes authorized by Chapter 53  of Title 49 of the United States Code. The bill also provides funding to fight terrorist financing networks and bolsters border and airport security. Bilateral Economic and Global Health Assistance – The bill contains a total of $30.86 billion for bilateral economic assistance to foreign countries – an increase of $3.48 billion from the fiscal year 2022 enacted level, excluding emergency funding. Within this amount, programs that support development assistance, global health, and humanitarian assistance are prioritized.
